The Rolling Stones absolutely belong on this list and I believe some of the legendary bluesman would agree. They are solely responsible for leading me to the genre and my love of the music. Your list is awesome, and has introduced me to some very cool blues tunes. Thanks many times over, especially for introducing me to folks I never heard of before like Susan Tedeschi and A C Reed. Perhaps for your update you can add something from the much maligned Ike Turner. Works for me! Listening to it now. Meh -. Blue on Black is one of the cooler blues rock songs out there. Agreed on Kenny Wayne Shepard. He has a place on the soon to be released update to the list.

Tinsley and Guitar Shorty were already on the short list. Leaving out the genius of Peter Green with Fleetwood Mac from this list is a major oversight. Susan Tedeschi is cool, but …. Thanks for the comment. I am in the midst of an overhaul of the list and thank you for pointing out Peter Green. The old Fleetwood Mac deserves a spot — or two.
This song pretty much speaks for itself…. John Mayer will continue to be one of the blues guitarists that purists will debate against. Either way you feel about him, he is a fabulous musician who has written many hit tracks. Dolly Dagger, she drinks her blood from a jagged edge… Ah Drink up baby. You may have never heard this gem by Hendrix, but it is a great track that was the last Hendrix single to show up on the Billboard top charts. The tune was released in on the posthumous album Rainbow Bridge.
The album is worth it for the slow-building opener, Train To Nowhere which is a classic of the era. Breaking out of an increasingly moribund blues scene at the end of the 60s, Tony McPhee swapped his mellow boogie for something heavier and came up with the semi-conceptual Thank Christ For The Bomb.
It seemed a risky move but he had no trouble making the switch. The songs are briefer but each one packs a punch, even when the emphasis is acoustic. And when the band stretches out on the title track, adding layers of sound after a slow start, McPhee rips out a solo that would not disgrace an MC5 album. The reward for such bravado was the first of three Top 10 albums. Van Morrison was contrary right from the start! Mayall had moved on too.
