Black out or blur out usernames. Suddenly they were something I desired with every cell of my being. I just HAD to get with them. My biology was kicking me in the ass repeatedly all day telling me to chase after them whatever the cost. So what did I do? Why, I pulled out that tablet of commandments, thinking to myself that it would be a breeze to get girls. After all, I had gotten such great advice for more than a decade, I was going to be Casanova out there!
I was bulldozed. I went out of my way to be Prince Charming. I complimented girls. I held the door open for them. I made romantic gestures and tried to always be a gentleman. I asked a few girls out on dates by sending them love letters and giving them flowers.
A few of them said yes to a first date, but there was always some excuse when I asked them to meet up again. I started doubting myself. As a hetero man, I actually understand the appeal of this mindset.
Despite believing myself to be a decent person, I spent adolescence struggling to find and keep a girlfriend. But it's an extremely flawed way of looking at relationships, and at its core, it's not all that nice.
Yes, there are men out there who are genuinely good-hearted. This isn't about them. Believing that girls are just as capable of making rational decisions as guys is a basic requirement for respecting them. So, when you accuse women of always going for the wrong guy, you're implying that you know better than they do. You're rejecting the possibility that they can make the right choice for themselves.
Let's say the typical nice guy is right about girls. Maybe they don't date gentlemen. Maybe they do prefer bad boys.
Maybe they constantly ignore the man who'll always be there with flowers, while chasing the one who'll never treat them like a princess. This theory has its problems, but let's give the nice guys the benefit of the doubt, and run with it.
It's still massively condescending. It still assumes that you know what a woman should be attracted to. It doesn't allow for the possibility that maybe girls prefer those qualities. And if you truly respected them, you'd respect their right to pursue the men who possess them. You're allowed to be upset over the fact that you don't — I'm upset that I'm not Michael Fassbender — but that doesn't mean you're in the right if you want to insist that women should be more interested in a guy like you.
Did you know that the idea of only getting one phone call when you're arrested is a Hollywood myth? Should you stay or should you go? Missouri State University. Roberto Nickson on Unsplash. He will learn his lesson and treat you better than before. If he sees how hurt you are and he really loves you and wants a life with you, he will learn from his mistakes. He will treat you better than you could imagine and never do anything that would jeopardize your relationship again.
He won't learn from his mistakes and will continue to hurt you. The phrase "once a cheater always a cheater" proves this point. Because, most of the time, boys are the ones who cheat, they won't learn from their mistakes.
Keyword: boys. You may find someone better. You may find someone who treats you way better than the one who cheated on you. He may be better than you could imagine. You may find someone and be hurt again. The next person you find yourself with may be toxic or may be a cheater too.
You would think that if you let people know you were just cheated on they'd give you a little bit of sympathy and not hurt you, but I promise you Some people get back with those who cheat on them and that's OK. Some people leave the ones that cheat on them and that's OK, too.
Though my lashes are long, their sparsity is the exception to that. I immediately noticed the way it lengthened my already-long lashes and filled out any sparsity I had. A natural beauty, she never really wore makeup, but I started raiding the beauty aisles at CVS the second I started getting an allowance. The goal was to find something that looked just as good as falsies without the heaviness or effort of putting lash glue on. I had seen so many beauty YouTubers pre-Instagram rave about the life-changing effects of the product, so when I passed by it in the aisles at Sephora as a year-old, I figured it was worth a shot.
They were immediately more full and longer than I'd ever seen them without false lashes. That may sound overly simple and like what you could already have been doing. I, however, go by a "more is more" mentality when it comes to my lashes. I find this lets the liquid dry a bit to get just a little sticky — the perfect consistency to let it adhere to whatever you'll be putting on top of it.
I'll then end with a lengthening mascara to really comb through the lashes, making them look extra long and natural. Most either sting, are ineffective, get too oily, or leave me with panda eyes. Even if you're convinced it's nothing, be considerate of the gym's employees who will cringe when they hear you sneeze on the treadmill. Just take one for the team and stay home. In lower outbreak areas, this might just mean wearing one in and out, but not while you're actually working out.
The front desk worker who kindly reminds you of the mandate isn't the one ruining your workout by asking you to wear one, they're simply doing their job. For general gym use, this may include an expiration time so no two-hour workouts for you. For classes, this will limit the number of participants allowed. These reservations should be a first-come, first-serve policy — make sure you fully plan on attending when you book your time slot, so you don't take time away from someone else!
Things like saunas, showers, and locker rooms would be harder for the gym staff to closely monitor for cleanliness — they may decide to keep them closed for the time being. If you're going to the gym before work and are counting on shower access or you were just looking forward to some relaxing sauna time this is something to check on before you go in. As space will be more limited, be considerate of what kind of workout you're going to do.
Instead of laying on a mat to do push-ups, maybe do standing circuits with kettlebells to take up less space. Yes, gyms are open, but that doesn't mean you need to hog up the already-condensed space that's there. Gyms should have disinfectant readily available, easy to access whenever you need to spray something down.
Call your studio and check-in with their front desk so you know exactly what to expect before you begin going in again. The build-up of unknowns can upset the mind and the body, so it's crucial to acknowledge it and have coping mechanisms in place to avoid fatigue as much as possible. Here's what we're following this week regarding adapting to the change around you. A global pandemic? Sure, you can follow the guidelines your local officials have put in place, wear a face mask, and avoid giant crowds, but that doesn't mean another change is sure to stay away.
Learning to let the things you can't control go is not only crucial for your mental health, but it has the ability to ease the pent-up, physical stress that's taking a toll on your body.
This is what sparked the body-positive messages, accounts, posts, and even songs on the radio, starting a mass movement of learning how we can love our bodies, even if they don't "fit the mold.
