Autumn loves to be held but has her limits too. Just go along with her tolerances. Last edited: Jan 2, Charles, Missouri. It is probably to soon to see if this is a permenant behavior.
She is young, after all. My friend had a calico that did the same thing. She came from a home that had 43 cats gulp , and I think she really never had much intervention with people before.
Took my friend 11 long months, but eventually she came around, once she realized my friend only had her best interests at heart. Give it some time. Never let her forget that she is loved. Be gentle, be caring, but practice level persistence. It will be well worth it, believe me.

Having dealt with calicos and torties for a loooooong time, I have to tell you that, in my experience, most of them don't really care to be held, but will generally tolerate it. The good new is, once she's no longer a skitzy teenager, skittering all over creation, she may well come to enjoy jumping up in your lap and curling up for some affection and a nap, even if she objects to being picked up.
They are very independant in general, and that "arms around you" that Ragdolls thrive on seems like a trap to many of them. So, offer a nice big lap feet stretched out and propped up and you might find that if you are patient and willing to give affection on her terms, she'll adore curling up on your legs for strokes and scritches. This may not be an easy thing to do but you could try putting her in her carrier and sitting in the car with her in the air conditioning for a little bit. If she is overheating this could help make her feel more comfortable for now. I would still take her to the vet though to rule out an illness. I am not a vet but this did help one of my cats years ago when I lived in an apartment with no air conditioning.
I ended up moving myself and my cat on in with a friend that had air conditioning for a few days to get through a bad heat wave. Norachan Moderator Staff Member. If your cat hasn't drunk anything for a while try using a syringe without the needle to squirt some water into her mouth. Put the syringe into the side of her mouth and squirt to the side rather down her throat so you don't make her cough. Dehydration can cause lethargy. Something as simple as getting the vet to put her on a drip could perk her up a bit.
Good luck, I hope she's OK. You must log in or register to reply here. Latest Posts. My cat is about 4yrs old and she's a pretty pretentious cat usually once a day she'll pick a family member to love and get attention from for about 2hrs and I let her in my room at night and she started sleeping at the foot of my bed then she decided she would like to sleep on top of me and I don't like it her claws and knees stick in to me and I can't sleep, I put her next to me and pat her but then she just climbs back on top or leaves the room.
I like her sleeping in my room and I would like to have sleep next to me but I she wont except any where but on top It depends what you are laying down. A book on a table? Because it wouldn't make sense for a cat to lay down a book. I've had trillion cats in my life, and they're all different. Some refuse to sleep anywhere but on your face.
Some refuse to sleep anywhere near your face. Cats like to cuddle into anything warm and pliable, so usually the small of your back or on your legs is nice. But, like you, my sole surviving cat has to sleep on the back of my head. The short and long of it, I've since found that I actually sleep really poorly when my cat is in the room. Their sleep cycles aren't timed with ours. Your 7 or 8 hour sleep duration is the same as them waking up, moving to a warmer spot, napping, dozing, lying about not laying about , eating, going to the bathroom, batting my face, napping, moving to a warmer spot, dozing, napping, sleeping, meowing for food, attacking my toes, gnawing my arm, dozing, napping, and so forth.
So my advice: invite kitty to sleep with you when you're taking a nap. My cat does the same and its her way of saying she cares for us, I also put her to the side and she does the same as your cat then i move her again and she would leave it has taken me months to get her to understand she can sleep on the bed with us but not on us.
